You see the striped ducks in so many of our baby photos. It's kind of become a staple in our photos. But I bet you don't know the significance of these oddly sewn striped ducks.
When I was pregnant with the twins, I had planned on sewing something for them by hand but wasn't sure what. I wanted it to be special and personal so that they may carry it through life and one day pass it on to their own children.
I had limited fabric, and some friends even brought me some fabrics, so while on bedrest I began hand sewing these ducks with bandanas. Even the bandanas resemble the very first bandana bibs that I bought the boys.
It was about Father's Day and we had wanted to go to Baby Bloom, a local ultrasound place that will give you a heartbeat animal with your baby's heartbeat inside. That was really all Kevin wanted in the deal.
But around 24-26 weeks we were told that it could be any day that they were born. The worry of everything from NICU time to losing them flooded in with that news. So we never went and just said well, we will meet them next week or the next. But then I carried them to 38 weeks. By God's will only!
So, just before the last stitches were done, I decided to sneak a little surprise inside of them. I ordered some tiny button push sound recorders like what's in the build a bear animals. Then, using my handheld doppler I recorded each boy's heartbeat and slipped it into each duck. To keep them separate I stitched a brown plaid "K" on one and a brown plaid "C" on the other.

What are some sentimental items you or your children had growing up?
