The Mystery of the Vintage Toy

I drifted in and out of deep sleep. Dreams were getting closer and closer as I lulled off to dreamland. Then in my dream, I saw something, a memory that had been placed away in the back of mind for so many years.  There was a sticker, but only the top half of it. It was a man. I slowly began to come back to reality and awaken.

"What was that?", I thought. It was some type of toy I had as a child.

I reached over and grabbed my phone, 1:30 am.

Hm. I pulled up google and began my search.

The only knowledge of that mystery toy I had was that it had been my mom's as a kid and I had destroyed it. Like DESTROYED it. I fondly remember chewing them as a kid.

So I searched.

"1970s toys"

"1970s vintage toys"

"Vintage sticker toys"

"Vintage stickers that don't stick"

"Vintage 1970s toys like stickers"

"Sticker toys from 1970s"

and then, under "1970s vintage toys sticker board" I found it.

The Little House on the Prairie Colorform Playset.

***For those of you who don't know*** Colorforms are the name given to these reusable sticker things. They're like vinyl stickers that can be wiped with a damp cloth and forever keep their sticker like cling to the board they come with. You can create little scenes and be free to use your imagination as if it were a dollhouse. They were created in the 1950s and were super popular. There were The Munsters, The Addams Family, Cookie Monster, Barbie Dreamhouse, Barbie Dress Up, Holly Hobby and so many more! They're not as heard of nowadays and I'm not 100% sure why. If you could keep up with the pieces, you'd have unlimited fun for life!

I clicked through the photos and memories flooded back in as fast as they could. Memories that can't even be brought back by photos. These were true, raw, memories. It was on Ebay, so I clicked to see how much it'd be for me to get it.

$99.

Wow. There had to be some cheaper, I mean this is the internet that we're talking about.

Clicked on the next link, $280.00.

Oop. Back to the $99! I found one in bad condition for $75 but it sold pretty quick.

Who else in this world is seriously searching for Little House Colorforms??????

So there that was, $99 or $280.

I went on Facebook later on that day and began searching for Little House Colorforms there. I went through numerous posts of Aunt Shirley gave me this 16 years ago... and Grandma bought me this when I was a child. You know what kind I'm talking about. The ones where they won't sell but they want to show off.

Then I saw one from a booth vendor in a Nebraska shop.

He had one for sale in almost perfect condition (only one form missing) for $25!

It was posted 3 or 4 years ago so I thought it would probably be gone by now. But it was worth a shot, right? I messaged the guy and said that I was in Georgia but I would like to buy it if it were still available. A few days later, it was on its way!

and that is how I got my super neat colorform playset.

So am I going to sell it or what?

Nah, when I do finally have kids whether it be through natural birth, surrogacy, or adoption, I want to protect them and give them a classic childhood. Homeschooled, ALOT of learning in nature and around the farm, and plenty of vintage toys and books! If they destroy it like I did my mama's, maybe one day it'll come back to me when they're in their twenties and are feeling nostalgic.
