As most of you know, I lost two of my babies somewhat early on in pregnancy. After the second miscarriage, we decided it was time to do the genetics test. We needed answers and we needed them any way we could get them.
A few weeks later, the results were in and I was diagnosed with MTHFR variant a1298c heterozygous.
My doctor was speaking in a different language to me. I looked at her with deer in headlight eyes, "English, please."
She proceeded to tell me it was nothing much to worry about and that the variant I had was rarely a reason for recurrent miscarriages. I smiled and continued on with life. But the more I thought about it, the more I worried there was something more to this.
I began doing research, studying genetics, and the things that can get our bodies out of sync. It. blew. my. mind. I realized that people who have MTHFR cannot process folic acid. FOLIC ACID IS EVERYWHERE and is a HUGE thing for pregnant women. But when you have MTHFR, you have to take the natural form of it, called folate, which helps to repair and produce DNA. Where normal prenatals are like $5-$9 a bottle, my prenatal that I changed to after losing our baby is $30 a month, but they're specially formulated for MTHFR mutations.
So after the discovery, I decided to take a closer look at what I put in my body and also a closer look at the products I use on and around my body. Everything in your environment has an effect on you and your hormones. The MTHFR community is a very natural community so I figured a natural lifestyle would be a good start.
I downloaded the app, "Think Dirty" and began scanning my entire household.
Let's look at a few things from my home that were DIRTYYYYYYYY.
I love my Gain Laundry Detergent, it's cheap, I can coupon it at the Dollar Store and get a lot for cheap, but how does it grade out on the dirty scale?
On a scale of 1-10, 1 being great for you, 10 being terrible.
Gain Laundry Detergent was a NINE! NINE. Like 9.
I cringed and began reading through the explanation.

I've already made the move of replacing ALL my cleaning products around the house, now it's time to continue on!
