Simple Mondays: Being Happy in your Home

Being Happy in your Home.

We've had our home for seven years now. When we first moved in we excitedly painted, repaired things, and placed what little we had perfectly in each cabinet and drawer. Life was good. The house smelled of cleaners and it was just refreshing to wake up.

Over the years, I have fallen down in one way or another in some aspect of our house. At one point, after losing our first baby I went through a depression and things just fell down for a while. Add some hoarding on top and you have the perfect combo of my junky house.

This past year when we were in the process of getting our new homestead, I had just finished my kitchen remodel. When I went to the farmer, "I want to have a fresh feel to our house." With this fresh start, I wanted a fresh slate even in my house. Currently, we are in the trashing everything phase. I have been throwing out & donating so many of our items that we have no use for anymore.

We all get in a rut with our homes sometimes though. So today on "Simple Home Monday" I'm going to tell you some ways you can get out of your rut and be happy in your home again.

  1. Deep Clean. A good deep clean will refresh your place and make you have that same fresh feeling you had back on move-in day.

  2. Buy New Cleaners or Make A New Scent of Homemade Cleaner. Whether you enjoy regular cleaners or making your own cleaners, a new scent of cleaner can change your entire mood (and clean your house!)

  3. Paint a room. A new coat of paint will really bring a home to life. We painted our kitchen white and added fake shiplap, the next room to be painted is the guest bathroom and our bedroom! I went a little bold and brave and we are doing a deep, dark forest green. You'll be amazed how a new coat of paint can change things.

  4. Replace your cookware. I have had the same cookware since before we got married, this past Black Friday I got a new cookware set and it feels like a whole new cooking experience!

  5. Replace your utensils or plates, bowls, etc. Another change in dining scenery! You'd be surprised at how it can change your entire mindset and mood.

  6. Clean the House & Light a Candle. A good tidy-up and a good candle will create a good mood in your household and a good mood in the house makes for a happy home.

  7. Accept that your house is yours and it's okay if it's not perfect. It's okay to have the kid's mess all over the floor, it's okay to have dirty dishes on the sink. Accept that your home is okay and get to it when you feel ready.

  8. Rearrange the furniture or decor. My grandmother's favorite thing to do. LOL! This actually does help a ton with making it feel new to you!

  9. Rearrange your schedule. Wake up with the sun one morning and have a good coffee or sleep in and have brunch later. Switch up your schedule to have a fresh feel.

  10. If all else fails, bring in some windowsill plants. Because why not, ya know?
