Quiet Time

Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Mark 1:35

In a world that moves faster than we do it's rare that we get a small moment to rest.  With chickens to feed, eggs to be gathered, cows to be fed and tended to, breakfast to cook, and chores to do sometimes it's hard to find a moment to really kneel down and pray.

Sometimes my prayers come as I'm gathering eggs or doing chores, sometimes it's on the way to work, and sometimes my mornings are so busy that I totally forget.

I envy the ones who have slow prayerful mornings. I envy the ones who have the time to sit in a rocker on the front porch and read their bible while the breeze comes through. One day I will force my life to slow down but until then, I need to make a plan for quiet times in the mornings.

How can I begin making quiet time for God?

MAKE IT A TOP PRIORITY. If morning time with God is what you want, that's what you need to make it into. You need to make God a priority and just do it. Dive head first into a relationship with God.

Figure out what you can leave out on your busy schedule to make room for God, I could wake up 30 minutes earlier and there are 30 minutes. My plan is this, I'll start with baby steps. I'll wake up earlier, read a devotional, pray on it and pray for strength and guidance for the day ahead of me and thank God for waking me up. Then after that, I can begin the daily race.

What are the benefits of spending time with God in the mornings?

You'll feel more at peace during the day.

You'll have the spiritual strength to make it through the day.

You'll have the direction for which paths you need to take during the day.

You'll feel more stability.

You'll be able to hear God better without the craziness of the world spinning through your head.

Do you spend a special time with God in the mornings when you wake up? What are your morning quiet times like?

It's a little crazy. I've been working on this book for a year now and it feels like that was my itty bitty baby for a while. Late nights...
