Notes about Pumpkins.

The boys have spent many days at pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and farmer's markets.

We've even been able to pick our own pumpkins lately! We still have a bunch growing too! Our marigolds are growing so beautifully too.

A couple things to make note of:

When growing pumpkins....

  1. Plant them on time! If you're going to sell them at the Fall market, they have to be ready to Fall Market!

  2. Space them out enough and be ready for vines. (I was so not prepared for the vines to take over the garden then travel outside of the boundaries.)

When it comes to the blooms... did you know there are male + female flowers? The males bloom before the females. They have just a stem and flower. The female blooms have a small fruit or "an ovary" under the flower which is your future pumpkin. Neat, right?

Next year's Fall Garden.

Some things that worked:

The marigolds! They attracted pollinators galore!

The trellace for the smaller pumpkin varieties.

10-10-10 fertilizer worked great!

Some things I plan to change are:

I want them to be spaced out a little more so I can have room to actually walk in between them.

The amounts of water they got. I did not water enough and when I did, it didn't reach the trellace pumpkins very good.

So yeah! I thoroughly enjoyed being a pumpkin farmer! Just wait till next year! :)
