Naturally Freshening your Home & Nursery.

Naturally Freshening your Home & Nursery.

Since having the boys, I have struggled with wanting our home to smell like Fall and not wanting to irritate our babies lungs. Baby Colt had issues a few weeks back when he started having milk allergies with congestion and I realized how hard it was for him to breathe with congestion. After that, I am trying to be more conscious on what I burn in the house and what I expose them to.

Here are some ways you can freshen your home:

  • Potpourri / Sachets of lavender or flowers - A mixture of dried flower petals and other dried smell goodies will add a little bit of an extra touch of freshness.

  • KidSafe Essential Oil - Plant Therapy essential oils have a kid safe line that is appropriate for your kids and babies. NOTE: babies should not be exposed to essential oils until closer to around a year old, but many people have differing opinions on this.

  • Soy/Beeswax Candles - Soy & beeswax candles burn clean, beeswax are my favorite of the two because of the sweet, light honey scent that they give off.

  • Simmer Pot - A simmer pot can be placed on the stove and simmered all day to give your home a nice Fall scent. I love to use cinnamon, pumpkin pie spices, and vanilla. But you can go all out and use apples, apple cider, orange, cinnamon sticks, cloves, etc. Just add water and simmer all day.

  • Baking Soda sprinkled in the diaper pail - Baking soda is known for soaking up bad scents so why not sprinkle it in the bottom of the diaper pail to soak up those diaper scents?

  • Open the window - Obviously the cheapest and most effective option here! Just open your window and let in the fresh air and let the stale air out. We are coming into the cooler months now and this is the perfect time to open the windows and air out our homes.

  • Natural Cleaner - You can put in an order for Lady of the Farm natural cleaner OR make your own with vinegar and essential oils that are safe for kids.

If you have any more suggestions for naturally freshening up your home, put them here in the comments!
