We've begun toddler schooling this past month, I'm using the "Year of Play" from toddler approved as an inspiration for this. Some of the things included are for older tots.
The boys are one-year-old *18 months technically* and I've watched them get more curious as the days go on. So, I decided it was time to begin teaching them different things along with the usual first words.
This week's theme is "PETS".
If you're a toddler mom and want to follow along, here are some ideas I have for the week. NOTE: if you can't do them all, you're still a wonderful mom. I can't keep up most weeks lol!
Go to the pet store and look at the animals. Maybe bring a fish home for them to watch in the tank or bowl! (Just be sure that YOU are ready to take care of them. I know life can be overwhelming and adding on more animals can be a bit much.) Do a pet scavenger hunt while you're there!
Paint paw prints on paper plates or cardboard and hide them around the house for a fun play on blue's clues "hide n seek".
Make a cat or dog pizza - olives for the eyes, cheese whiskers and fur, and a small slice of onion for the mouth.
Set up a vet's office in the play area. Use a toy phone at the "front desk", use any stuffed animals they may have, and use bandages to help with any booboos.
Use play dough and make pets or use stamps or cookie cutters to make pets! Then you can go through and teach them the sounds each pet makes.
Print out photos of your pets, then teach them their names, what animal they are, and what they "say" (woof, meow, cluck, quack...)
I can't wait to get started next week on our pet learning. We may have some extra playtime outside with our dogs and tomato, the cat.
Let's see what we can learn this week! If you follow this theme, let me know what you plan on doing!
