January.

Hey there! January is flying by in the best of ways. We've been hibernating in a way. We are spending our days decluttering, spending time with family, cleaning up gardens, and catching up on things that we were too busy for all year.

Here are some photos from our adventures lately.

The longhorn cattle out on the hunting preserve. There are three of these beauties. Their horns grow so fast!

I was making potato soup one day during the storms that came through and it was so peaceful in the kitchen. The thunder echoed in the background and the candlelight danced on the kitchen wall. But that smell of cheesy potato soup made the entire scene so cozy and perfect.

We've had two little feral cats living under the house about a month now. The mama came up one day and moved on in under the house then she had a baby under the house! We occasionally see them early in the morning standing at the back fence watching out over the cow pasture.

Our old lady ducks have become a little more adventurous. Sneaking out by going underneath the gate. Then they waddle down the paved road. I wouldn't be so nervous if they'd go down the dirt road like usual. But every time I see them on the paved road I go out and do my call out to them. "Chickie poooooooooos!" and they come running, or um, waddling as fast as they can go on those little old lady legs.

This is the dam road going by the pond out on the preserve. Me and my boys have had many walks down this little lane. And I had many walks down it when I was a child. Isn't it funny how time replays itself through the generations?

We've also been spending our days around the fire pits keeping warm and telling stories. On this day I was sitting & talking over a small fire that was slowly dying down when I realized my shoes were melting! Quite literally moments after this photo.

My sweet boys putting out corn for the deer. They love being on the rangers and riding around putting out corn and seeing all the new sights in the woods. Sometimes we will see wildlife on our rides that aren't scared of the sound of the rangers. A bunny or a possum shooting across the pathways. We've even seen some deer watching us through the woods or some baby hogs running back to the woods when they hear us coming up the paths.

We are spending January and February relaxing, getting caught up on life, preparing for the Spring, and just overall hibernating. It's wonderful to be able to slow down and reset. Maybe that's what my next post should be about. Resting, reseting, and slowing down.

Until next time,

-Lady of the Farm

It's a little crazy. I've been working on this book for a year now and it feels like that was my itty bitty baby for a while. Late nights...
