Calm before the Storm.

Bad weather is coming, no question about it. I spent a good part of the day outside with the animals. Calling the dogs from the pasture, watching the cattle, stalking chickens with camera in hand. The cool breeze added a Spring vibe and it just felt right. It was such a nice day. I cringe at the thought that this is the calm before the storm.

Here are some photos from around the farm today:

If you look closely at this photo of the Purple Martins, you can see someone peeking out of the gourd! The martins have fully moved in by the families and they're growing their own families quickly. I'm hoping everyone stays safe in the storm tomorrow. We will have to go out and check on the ground for any babies afterwards.

Perty was feeling a little photogenic today, she has discovered her new food and the pieces she likes and doesn't like. The orange kibble pieces are good, but the red and purple are bad, bad, and more bad. Perty has been with us since the beginning. I remember the day we moved our home to the farm, this sweet little cat with the softest and girliest "meow" came up and was immediately attached to me at the hip. She went through a period of being broody and angry at everyone and everything but in her older age, she has leveled out and has once again become the sweetest and most loving girl.

Back around September I ordered 30 hens from Ideal Poultry, they were black laced wyandottes, how beautiful have they grown up to be? I can't wait until they begin to shed their lovely feathers! They're so funny how they act, they hear me come outside and all run as fast as possible to surround me and wait on me to bring their food.

We are in the midst of Spring and that means, babies, babies, and more babies! We've had so many new babies born around the farm and it's not even close to being over with. Baby cows are being born almost every single day, baby martins are just born and their small chirps can be heard from the gourds, hens are sitting on eggs in hopes of little chicks to be born soon. Spring is full of babies everywhere and it's such a beautiful time!

Hope you enjoyed this small glimpse at life around our farm today! Stay safe tomorrow!
