My anxiety flooded my mind. I had just made my first eye doctor appointment in ten years. My eyesight has gradually gotten worse. Both pregnancies made it a tad bit worse, but my last pregnancy it got very bad. I thought it would go back to normal after I lost the baby but no, it has continually gotten worse.
Back Story: I can NOT do the eye pressure test, you know the thing with the puff of air. I just simply cannot do it. My eyes are super hypersensitive and I will blink a million times before we get it done. However, somehow I can easily get my eye poked with the handheld pen thing?? I know what you're thinking, "What????" I don't know. SO there I am on the phone with the receptionist at the local eye doctor's office explaining how my twenty-four-year-old going blind self has not been to the eye doctor in ten years because I'm scared of the eye pressure test...
I'm ridiculous, I know. But I got the appointment and I'll probably end up having to get glasses. But, I got a good laugh out of it and I'm sure she did too.
I made my way into the charming town of Nashville, Georgia. Living and growing up in Nashville, I thought it was a washed-up community with nothing to offer but the older I got and when I moved to the neighboring town of Enigma, I realized that Nashville was just a small town trying to rebuild itself to its glory days. Which, now that I'm older, I can appreciate that.
I pulled up to the Wire Rack Bakery & Cafe and met up with Laura. Laura is like a sister to me. She's not best friend status, she's my sister. She was my maid of honor and I was her matron of honor. We went into the quaint cafe and oh it's so adorable. The prices are reasonable and it's 1000000% better than Starbucks. We ordered the soup of the day which was white chicken chili. Y'all. It was delish!
I know its Summertime but in this small cafe, it feels like a cool Fall day. It was so nice to comfortably eat chili in the Summer. After talking for what felt like hours, we parted ways and I swung by my nanny's house to see her a moment then headed to the Tip to Toe Tanning Salon, I had to take my earring display out temporarily because I can't keep up with orders, contrary to belief I do a lot of work around our little homestead and don't have all the time in the world to make up earrings every day. So I got my jewelry and spoke with the owner awhile and then on my way out I asked about the store next door.
She said "thrift store with antiques" and I was sold. I ran next door and walked through. I honestly don't even know the name of this store, but it's my kind of place. The main room is household stuff. Antique or vintage lamps, furniture, bowls, pots, pans, books, records, movies, you name it, they've got it.
I also have my eye on a couple oil lamps now.
I made my way through to the clothes room and began looking through the dresses. I like dresses. You just put it on and you're done. No searching for pants or a shirt or making sure they don't look wonky together. It's great, why don't we wear dresses more? But anyway, I got a couple vintage dresses and headed to the register. I got them cheap enough so I went back and got some overalls. Then as I sat them on the register I told the girl, "Don't judge my clothing choices." and we laughed. Which then opened up a long conversation about everything under the stars. It was so nice to get out of the house and talk to new people.
I also saw a few new stores on the way out of town I'll have to check out when I get back into town again!
This little town that we all talked about we were going to leave and never come back, it's reviving itself and bringing itself back to life. I suggest we continue supporting it to prevent it from going back to the empty little forgotten town that it once was.
